There are many programmes to choose from on your path to obtaining a law degree. After SPM, you will need to find the right pre-university qualification and college to help you on your journey to becoming a law graduate.

FOUNDATION IN LAW

This will be your perfect headstart! The Foundation in Law (FIL) is a comprehensive 1-year programme designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a degree in law or its related fields. This course will give you a solid grounding in core legal subjects such as Criminal Law, Law of Contract, Tort Law and the English Legal System, whilst developing the skills to help you succeed in almost any undergraduate degree.

UK TRANSFER DEGREE PROGRAMME (LLB Hons)

This is a great option for those who do not have the budget to spend three years overseas. This programme allows you to spend either one year in Malaysia and two years at a UK university or two years in Malaysia and your final year in a UK university. It is different from a twinning programme. You will not be restricted to going to just one university in the UK. Instead, you will be able to transfer your credits to any one of our UK partner university. This programme is recognised for both the CLP and the Bar Examinations.

LLB (Hons) UNIVERSITY OF LONDON

This is the most cost-effective law degree programme as it is an external programme, meaning, you will spend all three years in Malaysia, but will get a degree from the University of London. The University of London external programme is the oldest distance learning law programme in the world, having started in 1858. It is also the only external law degree awarded by a UK university that is recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia for entry into the Certificate in Legal Practice examinations.

CERTIFICATE IN LEGAL PRACTICE (CLP)

The CLP is equivalent to the UK Bar Professional Course (BPC). It is a professional degree, and if you wish to become a practicing lawyer, you must take either the CLP or BPC to qualify. The CLP examinations are conducted by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia. These exams are for graduates who hold degrees from recognised universities in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN ARBITRATION

Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution, which is a means of solving disputes without resorting to the courtroom. This qualification complements your law degree. Besides your regular duties as a lawyer, you will be able to serve as an arbitrator. This unique professional qualification awarded in collaboration with MIArb. It is a fast-track, practical and relevant course that is targeted towards practising and aspiring arbitrators. You will receive a solid grounding in the basic principles of arbitration, with subsequent emphasis on real-life applications using case studies. Most of the leading legal firms across the world have now established an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) division due to the growing popularity of this method to resolve disputes. It would be a distinct advantage for law graduates in particular, to secure a job at top firms with this Diploma.

MASTER OF ARTS IN LAW

This Postgraduate programme is a necessary stepping stone to a PhD. It is tailored to provide you with the intellectual skills and professional expertise in a whole suite of specialist areas in law, such as Criminal, Corporate, Commercial and IT law, among others. This programme births multilingual, international lawyers who can be attractive candidates for “in-house” roles, especially with companies looking to expand into new markets.

MASTER OF CORPORATE LAW & GOVERNANCE

Designed for law and non-law graduates, this postgraduate programme is designed to take you to the next level. MBA IN CORPORATE LAW

Designed for law and non-law graduates, this postgraduate programme is specially designed for those wanting to gain an MBA qualification in law. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of Company Law in practice. CHARTERED GOVERNANCE QUALIFYING PROGRAMME (CGQP)

The Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (CGQP), formerly known as the ICSA Qualifying Programme, is the benchmark qualification for corporate governance professionals. The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) is the international qualifying and membership body for company secretaries and governance professionals. Founded in London, ICSA has been recognised and respected across the world for more than 100 years as the world’s leading authority on governance and compliance.
