COURSE MODULES
Common Law Reasoning & Institutions
This module introduces you to the operations of the English legal system, including classifications of law, the court structure, and the sources of law. You’ll develop knowledge and understanding in this area, providing an understanding of why the English legal system is what it is today. You will be introduced to the techniques of interpreting statutes and legal cases.
Public Law
This module focuses on the core features of the UK constitution, the institutions of government, their powers and functions. You’ll be introduced to key constitutional principles, and the legal and political issues related to the operation of the British Constitution.
Criminal Law
This module covers the general principles of criminal liability, a range of fatal and non-fatal offences against the person and selected offences against property. It also looks at attempts to commit offences, secondary liability and defences. You will develop the ability to explain and analyse criminal law, and will be able to apply its principles to the facts of given scenarios.
Elements of the Law of Contract
This module introduces you to the principles of contract at common law and in equity and helps you understand how these principles are applied to agreements. It covers core topics such as formation of contracts, capacity to contract and privity, performance and breach of contract and remedies for breach of contract.
Malaysian Legal System
This is a compulsory elective that gives you a solid foundation in the structure, sources, and functions of Malaysia’s legal and constitutional framework. You’ll explore the system’s historical development, the influence of English, Islamic, and customary law, and gain insights into judicial decision-making and statutory interpretation.
Malaysian Constitutional Law
This is a compulsory elective that explores the Federal Constitution, covering its key features, institutions, fundamental liberties, elections, emergency powers, and the Basic Structure Doctrine. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of legal pluralism, the separation of powers, and constitutional supremacy, while developing the analytical skills to examine current legal issues in Malaysia.
Law of Tort (Core)
This module introduces you to the organising principles of tort law, such as damage, fault, and vicarious liability. You will explore the cause of action in a negligence claim, with particular emphasis on the duty of care concept. You will understand the principles of liability governing pure economic loss, psychiatric harm, and liability of public authorities.
Land Law (Core)
This module centres on the law governing ‘real’ property, also known as land law. You will learn about various interests that can exist in land, the principles governing the creation, transfer and extinction of these interests, and the extent to which those interests are enforceable against third parties.
Law of Evidence (Elective)
The law of evidence governs what evidence may be presented and contested in the courtroom, techniques for eliciting evidence and the role of the lawyers, jury and judge in an adversarial system.
Company Law (Elective)
This module centres on the way the law regulates companies. It introduces you to the facilities that company law offers, such as limited liability and transferability of shares, as well as corresponding burdens such as duties of disclosure and compliance with statutory procedures.
Family Law (Elective)
You will learn about matters arising from the breakdown of family relationships, including divorce, dissolution of a civil partnership, financial relief remedies, child maintenance, children, domestic abuse, and cohabitees.
Legal Technology (Elective)
Legal Technology is a compulsory Year 2 elective that introduces you to the intersection of law, digital innovation, and cybersecurity. You’ll explore topics such as data protection, cybercrime, digital rights, and emerging technologies, while developing the skills and tech fluency needed to navigate the legal challenges of a digital world.
Business for Lawyers (Elective)
This is a compulsory Year 2 elective that gives you essential insights into modern business and management practices, helping you navigate the corporate world with confidence. You’ll explore key areas like leadership, HR management, strategic planning, sustainability, and diversity, while developing the critical thinking and managerial awareness needed for multidisciplinary roles in today’s global economy.

Examination Structure of the Programme

The Foundation in Law programme consists of 2 graded components i.e. Final Exams and
Coursework.

Generally, the entire foundation programme has 6 modules that are 100% assessed by coursework while the remaining 7 modules have a mixture of course work and final examinations.

This structure ensures that you gain both practical experience and theoretical knowledge.

The Foundation in Law offers a diverse range of modules. You also have the opportunity to explore specialisations in areas such as Contract Law, Tort Law, Criminal Law and the Malaysian Legal System. Exemption & Progression Pathways
Upon completing the Foundation in Law programme, you have various progression opportunities. You have the option of pursuing the LLB (Hons), UK Transfer programme (2+1/1+2), LLB (Hons), University of London programme (3+0) or alternatively a direct entry to one of our partner universities in the UK.

about the UKT(LAW)
The UK Transfer Programme allows you to complete a 1+2 or 2+1 pathway at BAC before finishing you law degree at one of 16 UK partner universities.
If you start Year 1 in January, April, or September, you will progress to Year 2 in January or September, and transfer to the UK for Year 3 in September.
Progression depends on average scores in key subjects, as outlined in the UK Partnership Fact Sheet, which also details entry requirements, fees, and scholarships.

The current cost of completing the UK Transfer Degree Programme at BAC is RM 31,000 per year.
Information regarding the cost of education in the UK is available in our UK Partnership Fact Sheet. However, the average cost per year is around GBP 20,000 per annum on tuition fee and GBP 10,000-12,000 per annum on living expenses.
You can transfer to one of BAC’s 16 UK partner universities based on key factors. The UK Education Fair, held in March and November, allows direct interaction with university representatives. Year-round info sessions and support from regional officers also guide students. Additionally, BAC’s Summer School and Adjunct Faculty initiatives provide insights from UK lecturers on academics and student life.
You will benefit from guest lectures, adjunct faculty support, and Summer School initiatives focusing on legal skills. Both programmes offer differentiation in terms of cost and educational experience. The UOL programme will be completed entirely in Malaysia and the UK Transfer programme offers you the opportunity to complete their degree in the UK from one of our UK partners. Both programmes however, have a minimum duration of 3 years to complete.
