How Do I Get In?

  • A pass in SPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of three (3) credits in any subject; OR  
  • A pass in STPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any subject or its equivalent; OR  
  • A pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a minimum grade of Maqbul or its equivalent; OR  
  • A pass in SKM Level 3 and pass SPM with one (1) credit; OR a Certificate of its equivalent; OR 
  • A pass in UEC with at least Grade B in any 5 subjects OR 
  • Any other qualifications recognized by the university senate

COURSE MODULES

Year 1

Child Growth and Development

This module discusses a child’s development from birth through the end of the early childhood years. The main developmental themes and trends within this time are considered as the implications from caring and interacting with children at different points in their development. This course also emphasizes on how family, community and culture influences growth and development.

Guiding Young Children

Guiding Young Children emphasises on the theoretical orientation in early childhood education. You will learn leadership skills and values, strategies and techniques to promote emotional and social wellness. This course allow you to professionally deal with young children’s challenging behaviours. 

Early Learning and Early Environment

Early Learning and Early Environment discusses the importance of conducive environment, health and safety principles according to a child’s development. It involves the appropriate use of materials and digital resources in early learning curriculum delivery. 

Early Mathematics in Early Childhood Education

This course introduces early Mathematics concepts and skills to student. It aims to enable students to plan developmentally appropriate Mathematics learning through daily routine and activities. It encourages students to prepare materials and digital resources, and create an active learning environment that fosters curiosity and confidence. 

Arts and Crafts in Early Childhood Education

This module introduces students to theories and principles of creativity and the artistic world of teaching art in the early childhood classroom. It addresses a child’s creative process to deepen the understanding of growth and development of young children.rs curiosity and confidence. 

Professionalism in Early Childhood Education

Professional knowledge is essential knowledge of best practices within the field. You will be exposed to professional growth and development in the field of early childhood. This includes the ethics of early childhood educators.

Play in Early Childhood Education

Play in Early Childhood Education discusses the correlation between play time, the learning process and children's development. This course allows you to design play activities and toys for children.

Language Communication and Literacy in Early Childhood Education

This module offers an overview on the development of language, literacy and listening skills in young children. It emphasizes language and literacy theories and activities, teachers’ approach and strategy to incorporate appropriate materials and digital resources to promote literacy. 

Health, Safety and Nutrition in Early Childhood Education

This module focuses on the aspects of health, safety and nutrition for young children. The topics covered are policies and procedures of nutrition; basic concepts of food and nutrients; safety; and maximizing the child’s potential through health. 

Social Studies in Early Childhood Education

 In this module, you will learn philosophy and theories of social studies, personal skills in managing identity, environmental, cultural and critical issues in various aspects of social studies in the life of young children.

Partnering with Families in Early Childhood Education

This course is intended to introduce you to the family concept by looking at various definitions, family oriented early childhood education, discuss on the framework of family, and early childhood settings cooperation. It is designed to help you understand and comprehend the communication at early stages of relationship between school and family. 

Year 2

Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood Education

This module explores the strategies of observing and assessing processes as a means of studying the development of children. You will be introduced to systematic methods of observation and assessment to establish nurturing relationships with a non-threatening approach. 

Early Science and Technology in Early Childhood Education

This module introduces you to the world of teaching science and technology, and its development through materials and digital resources delivery of early learning curriculum. Instruction, curriculum and strategies are discussed to help you become an effective and competent science and technology teacher. 

Programme Planning and Development in Early Childhood Education

This module exposes you to the philosophy, theories, principles and models of programme planning and development in early childhood care and education. The scheduling and evaluation for continuous programme improvement, curriculum and other organizational systems covering the various approaches and strategies are also highlighted in this course.

Music, Movement and Drama in Early Childhood Education

This module introduces you to the world of teaching music, drama and movement in the early childhood classroom. It demonstrates how powerful the learning areas of music, drama and movement are in respect to accessing other learning areas. It also provides a knowledge base for the deeper understanding of theory, application methodologies, practical activities and the significance of music, drama and movement in the early childhood curriculum. 

Teaching English in Early Childhood Education

This module is designed to develop real life communication, great emphasis is given in the area of grammar, personalized speaking, realistic listening and reading and vocabulary building. Learners are thought to incorporate four major skills like listening, writing, reading and speaking in their daily activities in early childhood settings. This integrates the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will have practical knowledge of the language and be able to use it with some measure of confidence in teaching English as a second language to nursery and preschool children.

Curriculum Planning and Development

This module provides you with a comprehensive understanding of curriculum and theories, including planning, evaluating and modifying the various areas required in curriculum design along with content knowledge on the essential categories of child development.

Spiritual and Moral Values in Early Childhood Education

This course focuses on fundamental values, with key concepts on moral and spiritual inculcated in young learners.  It helps you develop effective interpersonal skills and discusses different approaches to teaching moral and spiritual values, integrating moral with social and culture and creating activities based on moral values.

Administration and Management in Early Childhood Education

This module focuses on understanding the guidelines and regulations (Child Care Act), basic requirements for setting up a nursery and pre-school settings, the regulatory guidelines, the operational aspects of the centre, financial planning for sustainability, marketing and staff development. 

Special Needs in Early Childhood Education

Special Needs in Early Childhood Education provides students with pertinent information about this specific area. The course guides you through identification, modifying activities, assessment and extra support that is essential in dealing with the issues of special needs as well as equipping you with the skills to provide effective and influential education for children with special needs.

Virtual Teaching in Early Childhood Education

This module will build knowledge and skills needed in the foundations of technology-based teaching and learning. You will be exposed to a range of digital technologies which support teaching and learning. This includes the learning of, and about resources and digital applications for preschool online teaching and learning.

Issues and Trends in Early Childhood Education

This module provides an opportunity to explore the critical trends and issues being debated within the field of Early Childhood Education. You will examine current trends, historical origins, recurring issues, research findings, and resulting program developments in the field of Early Childhood Education.

Year 3

Practicum 1 (TASKA)

This practicum module will give you hands-on experience in a TASKA. You will be introduced to the challenges and responsibilities that come with teaching children in a TASKA

Practicum 2 (TADIKA)

This practicum gives you hands-on experience in a TADIKA. You will be introduced to the challenges and responsibilities that come with teaching children in a TADIKA.
